Sarah made a persuasive and passionate speech at the Democratic National Convention on its opening night (7/25/16), in which, after reminding the crowd of her emphatic admiration for Bernie Sanders and his positions, she stated, “Hillary is our democratic nominee and I will proudly vote for her…with gusto, as I continue to be inspired and moved to action by the ideals set forth by Bernie, who will never stop fighting for us.”
Unfortunately, some Bernie Sanders supporters in the arena (those who had vowed that if Bernie wasn’t to be the Democratic candidate, they just wouldn’t vote) were loudly critical in response to Sarah’s words. So Sarah stepped back to the microphone afterwards to scold, “To the ‘Bernie or Bust’ people: You’re being ridiculous.” And that’s what went viral, rather than attention to the indisputable accuracy and sense of her speech.
Here’s Sarah’s entire appearance, from her first words, through her speech, and including the extended section afterward in which she and Franken were told to fill time until Paul Simon was finished setting up for his performance.
And this is Sarah with Al Franken being interviewed on CNN after the speeches were over on Monday night. [Nothing too interesting in that interview; for diehard Sarah fans only.]
