Sarah Silverman: Mike Huckabee’s remarks ‘gross’

Comedian Sarah Silverman says Mike Huckabee’s discussion on women’s health is “gross” and needs to be brought to light.
“When a politician is speaking on behalf of those people who are pulling their strings for their purse and for the betterment of their career, it’s gross,” she said Thursday on MSNBC’s “NOW with Alex Wagner.”
“I guess I’m stunned, but at the same time, it’s so bizarre,” she said. “He says he wants women to control their libido … you know … I too, would like to control my libido and my reproductive system.”
Silverman, who is known for touching on controversial subjects like sex and religion, said women need to know that Republicans are chipping away at their rights. Though personally politically active, the comedian said her audience often doesn’t even know about the things she’s making fun of.
“For the most part, to talk about what’s going on, I have to let people know what’s going on first before I can go into any comedy,” she said. “Many women don’t know what’s going on and that it’s going to affect them in major ways and is already starting to.”
As for Huckabee’s comments on women needing to “control their libido” without the help of the government, Silverman said it was pure “hypocrisy.”
“These are people who are anti-big government, and yet they want to make laws about my vagina, and what I do with my body,” she said. “I don’t think that would be tolerated if we started legislating men’s bodies.”
