For the next five weeks you have the opportunity to become a contributor/mini-investor in a project to build a small solar power field on San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos. What does this green enterprise have to do with Sarah Silverman? Two things: 1. Sarah supports the project. 2. The venture is the brainchild of internationally renowned entrepreneur, environmentalist and human rights activist, Yosef Abramowitz– who happens to be Sarah’s brother-in-law.
Abramowitz is seeking public financing using the crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo.com. Various levels of contribution can receive various thank you gifts. Sarah fans will be drawn to two: $75 gets you an autographed photo from Sarah. Or for $5000, Sarah will personally Skype with you (only one offer for this, so the first $5000 gets it).
Abramowitz made an appeal for the project on Youtube, dressed comic-book-hero style, prompting Sarah to tweet with family pride, ““Sometimes it’s the [videos with] the crappy sound, desklamp lighting and paper cape that make the most sense.” Click the pic to see the video, to contribute, or to read about the plan. For more about her brother-in-law, take a look at this 2006 profile, or read his Wikipedia entry. Abramowitz’s wife is Sarah’s rabbi sister, Susan.
