Bluegrass fans expecting the smooth stylings of comedian/musician John C Reilly got an extra surprise last night at his Sydney show as Wreck-It Ralph co-star Sarah Silverman appeared on stage to open for her pal.
Silverman and Reilly are both in the country to promote the Disney film, also starring Jack McBrayer (30 Rock’s Kenneth) and Glee’s Jane Lynch, and took the opportunity to book tours for their respective fortes.
Walking out on stage after opening act Steve Smyth performed, Reilly announced that he had “a really good friend” who would be making an appearance. Silverman’s performance included a rendition of the musical bit ‘Diva Song’ and, like Reilly’s musical reincarnation, she was not afraid to drop the c-word.
Reilly, who performs as John Reilly & Friends, booked two shows in Melbourne and Sydney, the second of which takes place this Thursday at the Northcote Social Club. Silverman, on the other hand, will play at the Palais Theatre on Saturday. With such close proximity, could Melbourne fans expect the same ‘surprise’ lineup?
