Brittany, i think you misunderstood.
First of all, Sarah is absolutely hilarious. If you don’t get her type of humor, I am guessing you also think Steven Colbert is a republican. So, when you say she was ignorant, you only got part of it. She is portraying ignorance by satirizing those who are ignorant! Also, when you refer to the crickets chirping, that is at least partially untrue. To begin, MTV made a poor choice in having such a small audience to be live. It looked like half of the people there were the celebrities, who don’t really make all the noise anyways. The other half of the people were fans, who were really far away from the stage, where all the microphones are. SO, you couldn’t hear them. Also, some of the non-laughter can be the fact that Sarah had to follow Britney’s horrible performance. It was so bad, im sure people were very focused on how much that sucked, and weren’t paying as close attention to the best performance of the night… Sarah. Also, Sarah is not calling Britney’s children a mistake, she is just re-stating what Britney has been quoted as saying about her children! You also seem to think that sarah is a christian, which further weakens all of your points. If it wasn’t obvious at first, sarah even makes references to her being Jewish in the segment! Please be more informed before you make such accusations.

Obviously some of you have no appreciation for humor. Comedians make fun of people and situations - it is their job. And as for making the cuts at Britney - perhaps if Ms. Spears had conducted herself better over the past few years there would not be anything to say about her. You blame Sarah for restating facts about Britney’s life - when really Britney is the one to blame for all her self-destruction. Maybe if she would commit herself to seeking some help I could find some sympathy for her. However as long as she continues to engage in these behaviors and state her children are mistakes - I will not feel bad for her. She is choosing this life, without regard for anyone else in her family, especially her children. I think Sarah commenting on her at the VMA’s should be the least of her troubles at this point.

First I would like to say that I do understand Sarah’s humor, but I hardly ever find it funny. What she said about Britney Spears at the MTV awards was absolutely disgusting and aiming below the belt. Regardless of comedic style there is a line. We all heard about the Michael Richards incident; the line was crossed that night. Skin color aside, there should still be some respect between the comedian and the person their material is based on.

Britney threatened to ditch her VMA performance just minutes before she took the stage. Want to know why? Britney overheard Sarah Silverman rehearsing her monologue in which she calls Britney’s babies mistakes and takes jab after jab at Britney.
Britney made it very clear with MTV that Sarah was NOT allowed to talk about her kids, and MTV agreed. That big-mouthed bitch said it anyway.
Sam Lufti was overheard backstage screaming at Sarah Silverman because of her outrageous remarks saying: “Sarah Silverman is a seriously unprofessional person to make fun of infants to get a laugh. Making fun of kids is not condonable,” and that “she should have picked on someone her own size.”
Perhaps this why Britney looked upset during her performance. Britney was seen backstage in Alli’s arms crying about how cruel people can be to her babies.
While it is Silverman’s job to get a laugh, it should not be at the expense of little babies. Your career must be hurting if you have to turn to bashing infants in order to gain a laugh. You’ll get what’s yours.

Sarah’s performance was awful, it was more than painful. A few things she said were kinda funny, but most of it was crap. For someone who is making their living off being funny I was amazed and how bad her performance was. You could see her struggle when she realised no one thought she was funny. It was more painful than Britney’s performance.

Women have to walk a very thin line in this world. It’s tough enough for us when we’ve been deemed socially “inferior” to men for eons. With that said, it’s even tougher for women comics.
Sadly, most women aren’t funny. And those that actually reach a certain level of comedic notoriety have done so because they had a gimmick or used someone as a step ladder. Rarely is it because of
pure comedic prowess. I think that’s terribly sad.
I laughed at you for the first time when I caught your most recent special on Comedy Central. You showed sporadic moments of brilliance. In my personal opinion, your hosting the VMA’s wasn’t one of them.
If you can make a buck at “being funny”, then go with God but as I’m sure Britney Spears learned, you can’t force feed the American public something they’re simply not going to buy. Britney’s days in the sun are over. She must reconcile that and go on with her life. You can’t make a comeback when your career in non existent.
I’d like for you to learn from this and quit trying so hard. I get it–you’re funny and some find you attractive and that’s a salient point here–you’re funny and “cute”.
But desperation isn’t. Quit shoving it down our throats. Who are your handlers trying to convince??
With that said, you have potential, I think. But in a world of subjective humor (one man’s joke is another man’s insult) you have to try and reach a wider audience.
My heart ached for you at the VMAs last night…your performance made me wince. The reactive laughter was sparse–sometimes, it fell silent. I fully expected to hear crickets chirping. It wasn’t because you were making fun of Britney, I–we (the general public) could give a shit about her talentless ass. I just didn’t think you were funny. I rarely do. well, there is one thing about all this you can’t deny: the opening performance and opening monologue have stirred up more conversation than the last several years of MTV’s video music awards and the Grammy’s put together- which have both SUCKED in recent history. Like them or not, somebody had a brilliant idea on their coffee break. Mean, yes… more mean than the way these celebrities treat others? Doubtful. There’s a reason people are laughing- and frankly, by the time Britney’s kids go into therapy, this will be the least of their worries. With any luck they’ll become zen masters and denounce society, which will hopefully allow them to forgive their mother and look on this with graceful humor.

Okay- say Britney doesn’t have the body she used to after two kids (but still looks damn good). How many of you can say that about your body NOW before any kids???? Say that she looked stoned. say anything about her performance and her comeback if you are going to pick apart performing artist. But don;t be low enough, unclassy enough, lack of talent, and lack of humanity to call out on someone’s innocent kids and call them mistakes on national tv. sarah’s work is usually rude and dark. Since someone actually gave her a mic and pays her a bigger paycheck, she is even nastier and she goes for the jugular not caring what it can do to them. I am all for the motto of “just relax, its a joke” but not in this case. Its people’s lives, and two kids who did nothing wrong and are completely innocent. Sarah knew the joke was classless, talentless, demeaning, crude, and potentially emotionally damaging. Did you bother to hear the catcalls of people yelling for her to get off the stage or that she was ugly? You think that happened to Billy Crystal or sarah Jessica parker?? They didnt make a conscious CHOICE to negatively impact someone’s life and emotionally hurt someone who is clearly sinking anyway. Wow, you’re not funny at all. I think you’re trying to hard to be like Lisa Lamponelli, but you’re missing one thing, she’s fat and not funny, where you’re just not funny. You can only use the same shtick so many times before it runs out of steam. Not that it was good in the first place.
Sarah’s by far one of the best comediennes I’ve ever enjoyed. Tonight’s performance seemed to prompt a weird audience reaction that I don’t fully get. I watched the performance and it was funny but for some reason the audience wasn’t there which naturally causes a reaction to the performer. One consideration is that Britney’s performance was so pathetic that it brought the audience down. You can’t tell me she put her all into that performance. She, like Michael Jackson or Mike Tyson, is the sad, American pop creation that gets glamorized to the hilt and then brought down to the lowest possible level. She was never really that good.
Sarah on the other hand, is brilliant with a scorching sense of humor that stays on the edge.
I personally think her jokes were great tonight and that the audience reaction was poor for reasons other than her performance. Sarah’s talent will carry her for many more years while Britney lost her “talent” when she lost her figure and her mind. There will be another Britney in a few years but you’ll never see another comic just like Sarah again.

Seriously, chill out about Sarah being “mean” to Brit’s kids. Sarah didn’t say anything bad about them, she only called them mistakes, which they probably were. Britney never talked about wanting to be a mother, and she certainly isn’t acting like one (late night partying STILL going on, even just days before this performance).
Sarah is famous for making the same horrible jokes everyone else makes around their guy friends, only she does it publicly. It’s satire on celebrity and how we treat celebrity.
But still, Sarah has been much funnier in the past. Not her best work.
Sarah Silverman’s mean-spirited ‘humor’ is a huge waste of airtime. A ‘comedy’ routine full of nothing but put-downs of other people just seems like the work of someone covering up their own inadequacies. Sarah has plenty to feel inadequate about: her recent appearances at awards shows demonstrate her lack of talent, lack of real intelligence, and lack of any sort of humanity. I’ve never been a Britney fan. (I do pity her for her bad decisions and lack of judgement though.) However, Sarah’s desperate attempt to get a laugh by targeting Britney’s kids totally crossed the line and did nothing more than show her for the low-life, bottom-dwelling, pathetic-excuse-for-an-entertainer that she really is. The lack of laughter in the audience said it all.

Did anyone else notice that no one laughed at her punchlines? At least Britney was somewhat entertaining. For the last year I have been telling everyone about how funny she is.
She was the opposite of funny on this show, and did what I thought was the impossible - - made me like her a lot less. I still think J.I.M. was hilarious and SSN 1 of her show was not too bad, and I will watch SSN 2 this October, but she pissed me off somehow, and not in the good “envelope-pushing” kind of way.
